Powering the Future: UK–EU Battery RD&I Partnerships, 15–16 Oct 2025
Event Timing: 15 October 2025, 12:00 – 16 October 2025, 14:00
Event Address: Press Club Bruxelles Europe, Rue Froissart 95, 1040 Bruxelles, Belgique
BEPA, Battery 2030+ and the UK’s Faraday Institution are organising a two-day battery workshop in Brussels to explore closer alignment between EU and UK RD&I and policy programmes. The EU-UK reset talks in May and the UK’s associate membership of the Horizon Europe programme provide the underpinning to re-establish strong partnerships in this crucial technology area.
This is at a time when it is clear that to be internationally competitive, working collaboratively provides a much needed pooling of talent and scale. There is a strong need to collectively support the transition of Europe’s automotive industry, together with other sectors that electrification will support, e.g. grid storage, defence and aviation. Scaling of European battery manufacturing is essential as is developing the materials supply chains and minerals processing capability. Regulation and incentives will be important as is cooperation around the circular economy, rules of origin and the battery passport.
The workshop will bring together researchers, funders, policy makers and industry to create a report with recommended focus areas for cooperation.
