Conference on Battery Direct Recycling 2026 February 3-5
Direct recycling has the potential to play a key role in battery recycling in the future. As a complementary method to the more established recycling routes, direct recycling can contribute to the improved sustainability of the battery value chain and to enable the formation of a circular economy.
The first “Conference on Battery Direct Recycling” took place at the Congress Centrum CCW in Würzburg from 29 to 30 October 2024. More than 150 participants from research and industry travelled to Lower Franconia to exchange ideas on the direct recycling of batteries and thus contributed to the start of a direct recycling battery community.

Call for Papers
This second edition of the conference looks to delve further into the many aspects of direct recycling through your contributions. This call for abstracts is looking for submissions related to the direct recycling of battery technologies in four thematic areas. For submissions that do not fit into one of these categories, please contact the scientific board.
- POLICY AND MARKET
- DIRECT RECYCLING METHODS + PROCESSES
Includes subtopics such as:
Discharge and disassembly
Delamination, deagglomeration and classification
Regeneration and upgrading
Reintegration of recovered materials (also as blends)
Recovery and reuse of inactive materials
Recycling of next-generation components and battery technologies
Valorization of black mass using direct recycling processes - SUSTAINABILITY + DIGITALIZATION
Includes subtopics such as:
LCA, LCC, social LCA, …
Digitalization and Automation of Direct Recycling processes
Battery Passport - DESIGN FOR CIRCULARITY
Includes the development and implementation of design strategies on both the cell and pack level to facilitate a circular value chain (Design for recycling, Design for Second Life, Design for X)
Contributions of both oral and poster presentations are welcome from researchers at all levels. Contributions will be selected by the conference board on the basis of the originality of the research, the level of results indicated in the abstract, and the relevance for the field of Direct Battery Recycling.
